2009 - Good Year for Video Games » Jan 5, 2010 12:58 PM » Life, The Universe and Everything
I've never been very good at actually finishing video games, but for whatever reason 2009 was probably my most productive year ever. I think this mainly has to do with my move from primarily being a PC gamer to the Xbox 360, and even more so to do with moving into the the kind of games that could actually be finished. I used to play Ultima Online, World of Warcraft and Battlefield 1924/2 none of which can actually ever end.

Of course I had the Xbox in 2008 and that was not a very productive year. I still need to go back and complete:

  • Grand Theft Auto 4
  • Fallout 3
  • Brutal Legend
  • Assassins Creed
  • Stunt Man: Ignition
  • Mass Effect

I'm probably forgetting some, but those are the highlights. Fallout 3 I was borrowing from a friend and had to return or that probably would have gotten completed. Stuntman is a fun game, and I've gotten quite a ways through that one, I should get back into it. The positive side of this is with the exception of Brutal Legend none of those games have been purchased in the last year, maybe even the last 2 years. So the new acquisitions to completion ratio is very high right now.

I did make it through the following, however:

  • Batman Arkham Asylum
  • Prince of Persia
  • Assassins Creed 2
  • Dragon Age*

Ok, that's not terribly impressive compared to the unfinished list, but it's a start. I really want to get Mass Effect finished and BioShock so I can play the sequels. I am playing the Assassins Creed games backwards, hopefully I can move AC to the completed list pretty soon.

There is lots of good stuff coming up I want to play, and I think there is a very good chance I'll make it through most of these (in order of most likely to finish):

  • Splinter Cell: Conviction
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Borderlands
  • Bayonetta
  • BioShock 2

FPS's on the Xbox are still something of an unknown quantity, Fallout 3 was techically a FPS, but the alternate targeting system made it a little slower and more tactical. I'm sure I need to sharpen my twitch FPS skills on the consoles.

*haven't actually finished Dragon Age, but I am playing it now and I'm down to the very end.
